I have 12 years experience working with dogs, from competing with our own dogs in various dog sports, fostering rescue dogs, walking rescue dogs and as a professional dog walker (5 years self employed).
I am a full member of the PPG (Pet Professional Guild- an organisation for force-free training) the 'National Register of Dog Trainers and Behaviourists', the 'Institute for Animal Care Education' and the 'International Society for Animal Professionals' and I have current qualifications with the ADTB, up to Gold level as well as reading in excess of 50 books in relation to dog training, behaviour, psychology and physiology.
I am currently working towards an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training at Bishop Burton, my current degree is for psychology and criminology.
I offer 1-1 behavioural consultations for basic training and behavioural issues, mostly 'reactive' dogs as well as workshops and group classes for puppy's and adult dogs on a weekly basis, which I have been running for the last 3 years. To date I have trained numerous dogs myself and 1000's of dogs and their handlers for a variety of issues. I also have 6 years experience of working on behalf of a high profile animal welfare charity, so I have extremely good knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act.
Some of the short courses I have completed:
These experiences and extensive research and involvement with all things animal, throughout the last 10 years have given me extensive knowledge about pet care, particularly dog training and behaviour. This knowledge is modern and I am always educating myself on the most recent training methods, animal care and handling.
Les provides the dog walking side of the service and assists in classes and daycare. He has a few years experience of handling dogs and has been helping run the dog walking side for the last 4 years. He has a genuine love of dogs and is expanding his knowledge of dog behaviour and training.
Les used to be a manager for the Legal Aid Department and an Animal Welfare Organisation but joined in on the business full time in February 2016 and hasn't looked back since.
I'm in charge of admin and marketing as well as assisting in day care and classes, I am usually the first person you will speak to at Pawsitive Pooches. I've worked in customer service for almost 19 years. I've acquired an abundance of knowledge and skills and I'm looking forward to carrying this experience to Pawsitive-Pooches.
I live locally in the area and love going for walks with my husband and dog Mac with my camera and lenses.
My claim to fame is I was on the radio station formally known as Real Radio (now known as heart) with Dixie as a stand in once. I loved it and really got to let my personality shine and received great feedback on their social media pages.
I assist Lucy with training classes during the week, regularly using my own dogs as demo-dogs. I have been shadowing a variety of classes for around a year now; I have 16 dogs of my own and a small holding that my partner and I have put together. A hobby gone wrong I guess!
I enjoy training my dogs for gun dog work and agility and also helping a good friend on his arable and cattle farm, regularly driving tractors and other large vehicles.
I have been working as a dog groomer since 2013 freelance and with various salons, granting me a variety of experiences centered around the grooming table. I love getting a scruffy dog on my table and transforming them into the Belle of the Ball.
I decided in 2014 that along with all the experience I was gaining, I would also become qualified. I returned to education at Wigfield Farm for 2 years and completed my Level 3 Animal Management BTEC course in 2016, with top marks in all modules and plenty of experience in the onsite grooming training room.
Since then I grew my own mobile business, which I now hope to integrate into Pawsitive Pooches and Lucy’s fabulous new grooming salon.
I groom with an emphasis on the welfare of your pet. I have been told many times by my clients that I have an eye for detail, not only in making your pet look great, but also in picking up on possible health issues that in some cases has saved a precious life.
Personally, I am the proud mummy of 6 naughty rascal Lhasa Apso’s and a couple on part time terriers, that love to roll in mud and woof their little hearts out. When I’m not being mum I’m a social, outdoorsy person, you’ll rarely find me sitting still!
